iPhone / iPad / iPod Touch Email Connection Issues?

Some people have reported issues with connecting to LINUX hosting email accounts via various newer iDevices (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch). This is a common known problem with iDevices “auto discovery” feature when you try to setup an email account into your device. Setting Up Your iDevice for POP3 / IMAP Email:

This guide shows you how to set up a POP3 or IMAP email account on on various Apple iDevices including: iPhone 4 / 4s / 5, iPad 4 / 5, iPod Touch 4 / 5. Please note depending upon your device the instruction set and menus may slightly differ.

Preparation

Have the following items ready before starting.

  • Your domain name
  • Your email address
  • Your email password

Configuring Your Apple iDevice

  1. If this is the first email account you’re setting up on your device, tap the MAIL icon. Otherwise, from the Home screen tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars> Add Account.
  2. Tap Other.
  3. Tap Add Mail Account
  4. Enter:
    • Your Name as you want it displayed within your device and shown to people you reply / send to.
    • Your full E-mail Address. Example: info@yoursite.com
    • Your E-mail Password
    • Optional description.
  5. Tap Save
  6. Tap POP or IMAP
  7. Enter;
    • Incoming Mail Server as mail.yoursite.com, replacing yoursite.com with the domain of your hosting account.
    • Your full E-mail Address. Example: info@yoursite.com for User Name
    • Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) as mail.yoursite.com, replacing yoursite.com with the domain of your hosting account.
    • Your full E-mail Address. Example: info@yoursite.com for User Name
    • Your E-mail Password
  8. Tap Save.
  9. A warning ‘Secure Connection Failed’ will appear. Tap continue.
  10. Tap your email account.
  11. Scroll down and tap Advanced.
  12. Set use SSL to OFF.
  13. Tap the top left arrow to go back.
  14. Tap SMTP.
  15. Tap your Primary Server.
  16. Set use SSL to OFF.
  17. Tap Server Port and enter 25.
    *NOTE: If you have a problem connecting to port 25, you can change this to port 26. Occassionally ISPs will block port 25. Please see the FAQs URL at the beginning of this instruction set for more information.

Your iDevice is now configured to send / receive emails from your TPPHost email account.
